About Gail Young

Gail Young was born in Liverpool, North West England. Her father’s service in the armed forces meant that much of Gail’s childhood was spent in various parts of the world. She has since resided in Cheshire for most her life.

Gail began writing for the stage in 2005 whilst employed in Human Resources. In 2006 she took a break from her career to take her first full-length play, Cheshire Cats, to the Edinburgh Fringe. Performed by the Guilden Sutton Players, an amateur drama group, Cheshire Cats proved to be one of the festival’s biggest hits. The play was published in 2011, and has achieved international recognition.

Bothered and Bewildered is Gail’s second full-length play. It was first staged in October 2014 by Tip Top Productions at the Forum Studio Theatre in Chester. Directed by Gail herself, the production helped to raise funds to support patients with dementia at the Countess of Chester and Ellesmere Port Hospitals.

In 2011 Gail’s dramatisation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice Through the Looking Glass was premiered by the Guilden Sutton Players. Her more recent plays are Bouncing Back (2016) and Head Over Heels (2018). Her latest, Waiting, received its premiere performance in November 2023.
