Frank Tyler has gone missing at sea; the assumption is that he has died in a tragic canoeing accident, leaving his widow Beryl and their two adult children, Carol and Keith, to grieve.
It seems an open and shut case until DS Andy Watts of Northumbria Police takes a particular interest; does Beryl know more than she is letting on? Spoiler alert: the answer is ‘Of course, yes!’
The scene shifts from South Shields to a shabby hotel in Havana, Cuba, where Beryl and Frank (for it is he!) begin their new life in the sun. But the unexpected arrival of DS Watts, Carol, Keith, and the intrusive attentions of an eccentric Cuban official, see Frank and Beryl’s plans start to unravel. A fast-paced comic take on a familiar story; but as playwright Mike Yeaman insists; “any similarity to persons living or pretending to be dead is entirely coincidental”
