Four children and their dog go for a picnic at the coast, confident that an adventure of some sort is not far away. Their expectations are rewarded when the clues begin to mount up, and an encounter with an unusual boy complicates the mystery even further.

This production was recorded on Zoom and entered for the 2021 Durham and Sunderland One-Act Festival. Due to Coronavirus pandemic restrictions, the festival was held entirely on YouTube, with each play being available to view for one night only. The Quintessential Quintet received nominations from the festival adjudicator, Brian Marjoribanks, for Best Actor (James Soulsby), Best Supporting Actor/Actress (Laura Astin), and Best Cameo (Jane Bowron). The production was also shortlisted for the Adjudicator’s Choice award, and for the Best Play of the festival.
